easyJet – Easy access to the North West from the UK

If you fly into Belfast, reaching Carrick-on-Shannon will take roughtly 3hrs by road, a journey will bring you across the country from Antrim to Leitrim, through some of the most scenic and culturally rich parts of the island, north and south.

  • Belfast to Carrick-on-Shannon, via Armagh, via A26 – 2 hours 54 mins


Highlights along the way include:

  • Armagh city- ecclesiastical capital of Ireland
  • Navan Fort – ancient ceremonial site and one of the great royal capitals of Gaelic Ireland.
  • Armagh Observatory and Planetarium
  • Monaghan’s Rossmore Forest Park, with walking trails and ruins of Rossmore Castle
  • Cavan Burren Park: An ancient landscape with prehistoric tombs and scenic walking trails.

Each of these routes offer a mix of historical sites, natural beauty, and cultural experiences that can enrich your journey from either Derry or Belfast to Carrick-on-Shannon. Getting to Carrick from Derry

There are many routes to take from Derry to Carrick on Shannon, offering sites of interest along the way. We suggest the following options for your journey:

  • Derry to Carrick on Shannon via Donegal, Ballyshannon and Sligo – 2hr 35 mins via N15 and N4
  • Derry to Carrick on Shannon via Enniskillen and Swanlinbar – 2 hr 29 min
    Via A5, A32, A4, A509 / N87, R202 and R280.
  • Derry to Carrick on Shannon via Enniskillen and Blacklion – 2 hr 26 mins
    Via A5, A32, A4 A509 / N3 , N16 and R280


Highlights along the way include:

  • Derry City Walls; the Peace Bridge and the Museum of Free Derry.
  • Donegal Castle and Donegal Bay
  • Ballyshannon: Rory Gallagher Statue and the 12th Century Assaroe Abbey
